A construction project is a close interplay between trades, where logistics, time and workflow must be carefully balanced. Poor logistics in the building process affects electrical installation later on. Where traditional solutions treat electrical installation as an isolated task, Eligent streamlines the entire workflow and reorganises the steps.
Andreas Bjerkedal, Founder Eligent
Their patented system, developed in collaboration with engineering partner Inventas, separates the wiring inside the wall from the components on the outside. The electrician completes the wiring and connections before the wall is installed and fits the cover plate at the very end. The result is a faster job for the electrician, better profitability for the developer and a better-looking product for the end user.
Since the technical parts are separated out, the cover plate can be designed without compromise. For us as designers, this opened up a rare creative freedom within this sector. What should a wall socket look like, and how should it be used? The balance between distinctive design features and minimalism is delicate, because wall sockets should be discreet enough to become a natural part of all homes.
Through countless iterations, we have distilled the wall socket down to the essence of what Eligent strives to be. The form has been pared back to an absolute minimum, with a design that protrudes just 2.5 millimetres from the wall. At the same time, a few strictly functional details give the socket a distinct character that sets it apart from its competitors. It underlines the simplicity and rationality of the entire system, giving Eligent the competitive edge they need.
Our collaboration with Eligent began in 2023 with an expansive concept exploration phase, designing 30 distinct directions. Over a three-year development cycle leading to the late 2026 launch, our involvement has ranged from physical product development to creating pitch decks, and everything in between, including guidance on strategy, branding, and identity that support all physical touchpoints.
Coming from outside the electrical installation industry, we bring valuable outside perspective to their expertise. This fresh outlook is highly needed in traditional industries, especially alongside a forward-thinking company like Eligent. By asking the naive questions, our ambition is to complement their core competence with design sensibility, giving them a clear overview and providing the tools needed to thoroughly build a design-driven brand.
