Information

No two projects are the same, so we start each one with a blank canvas. Instead of following a fixed checklist, we adapt to what the project needs and work with you to find the right path forward.

The principles below are an attempt to articulate something intangible: how we think and work. They guide our decisions from the first question to the finished product, and they shape how we collaborate with you.

1. Give ideas form

Design translates ideas into physical form. Each product is a compromise between how it’s made, how it looks and how it works.

2. Build what matters

If it doesn’t improve on what already exists, we don’t build it. The difference has to be tangible.

3. Define the problem

A perfect solution to the wrong problem is still a failure. We filter out the noise until everyone agrees on the right one.

4. Stay naive

Fresh eyes see what experts overlook. Approaching every project with intentional naivety keeps us free of preconceptions.

5. Seek knowledge

When a project requires deeper insight, we find the right people and keep asking questions until we understand.

6. Cut the fat

Every feature and detail has to earn its place. What remains explains itself. Simplicity is sustainability.

7. Design for outcomes

Design guides what people do without them noticing. We make sure the responsible choice is the path of least resistance.

8. Make it real

Hardware is hard. It’s also possible. With the bigger picture in view, we get ahead of the bottlenecks and see it through.

F.A.Q.

A dogleg is a sharp change of direction. The term is used in golf, engineering and drilling, wherever the straight path isn't the right one. Our name is a reminder that the right path often has a turn in it.

We are two founders with complementary strengths and a shared background in industrial design. Together, we take physical products from strategy to production. As a small studio, we move quickly, and you work directly with us. Rather than just handing over deliverables, we become an extended part of your team.

Everything from heavy industry to consumer products and electronics. Ideas travel well between fields, and what we learn in one often solves a problem in another. Some of our strongest projects have been with startup founders who bring deep domain knowledge and need a partner to turn that insight into a product with a real path to market.

We often start with a short kick-off project at a fixed price, focused on your most pressing questions. Product development rarely follows a straight line, and the full scope is hard to predict upfront. The kick-off lets us get to know each other before you decide whether to go further. From there, we work at an hourly rate, or partly for equity through Dogleg Venture.

Product development can be costly over time, but we believe in long-term partnerships. That’s why we started Dogleg Venture, where we lower our fees in exchange for equity for projects we believe in. We usually agree on this after the kick-off, once we know each other and the project.

About

Dogleg is an industrial design studio in Oslo, founded by August Denizou Lund and Jens Christian Boxaspen. Our core focus is developing physical products. From small everyday objects to the larger systems they belong to, we aim to discover opportunities within constraints, creating sensible and rational products.

We approach every project differently. Rather than relying on a fixed method, our process adapts to the unique demands of the project and the people behind it.
