The modern task chair has become a complex machine. Dozens of parts, hidden mechanisms, springs and cogs make adjustments over-complicated, maintenance a specialist's job and recycling nearly impossible.

Twine tries to solve the inherent problems with one of the workplace's most essential objects. By rationalising the design, making parts do more than one job, and making interactions self-explanatory, we created a chair that anyone understands.

A chair that anyone can understand is a chair anyone can repair.

The slot for weaving the textile is integrated into the seat.

Twine strips the task chair down to what the materials themselves can do. An aluminium frame carries a PP seat and back, connected by a single flexible joint, a moulded, compressible PU bushing that allows dynamic movement along three axes and adjusts with nothing more than a oversized screw.

The hand-tightened wheel of the single flex-joint, allowing for movement and adjustment.

The seamless textile wraps around the seat and back like a sock, and weaves to create tension and lumbar support, defining the the chairs silhouette. This makes it almost shape shifting while adapting to the body, creating an airy feel. It is easily removable and washable as it is the element which is most prone to wear and tear through the chairs lifetime.
